Sunil is pastoring a growing church among those who are working in a tea garden in West Bengal, India. The tea estates typically provide on-site housing for their workers so this creates a community in the tea estate itself. It is among these workers that Sunil is ministering.
His church currently averages about 45-50 in attendance, but that number is growing as new believers are added. In the first six months of 2010, twelve people have accepted Christ as their Savior, and of those twelve, six have already been baptized. Sunil has made an intentional plan to reach the tribal group in the tea gardens.
Sunil led his church to visit five area villages outside the tea estate that do not have a Gospel witness. They were well-received and many people accepted the Gospel message.
The church building, shown here, is where Sunil’s congregation is currently meeting. However, it is in very bad shape due to termite damage. His congregation has started collecting money to replace it with a cement block structure that will not be affected by this type of problem.
Sunil has not suffered a problem with persecution as many others have in that area; however, the political unrest has hindered his ministry. Still, Sunil is faithful in spite of the problems and is continuing his ministry of reaching the unreached with the Gospel.
